about mobile DTV
Today's consumers are in motion, and they want content to come right along with them. Mobile DTV provides access to live, over-the-air digital television to consumers via next-generation mobile devices.
The most important content on any device is relevant content. Leading broadcasters are coming together to deliver local news, sports, weather, and traffic, together with highly promoted and branded national network content and beyond, straight to consumers.
And Mobile DTV is so much more than mobile video. It presents the power of real-time broadcast television to consumers on the go, either at fixed, pedestrian or vehicular speeds. Customized or menu-driven short-form content simply cannot compete with Mobile DTV’s full-channel simulcasts, crisp picture, high-speed mobility, and wealth of new multicast choices provided by local broadcast stations. Also, as a true broadcast service, the number of unique users is not limited, and the quality of service is uniform over the broadcast coverage area – all made possible through the digital broadcast signal.
Pearl is working closely with other organizations like the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC) – a broadcaster consortium that successfully developed the Mobile DTV standard – to accelerate the development and rollout of the technology. Aside from contributing to the timely development of the industry standard, the OMVC is facilitating the technological and regulatory needs of broadcasters, receiver manufacturers and service operators for mobile broadcasting. The below links, furnished by the Coalition, provides interested parties with information, including studies, reports and filings regarding the technology:
